Queen Mary Long Beach Nightmare Before Christmas Wedding

Queen Mary Long Beach Nightmare Before Christmas Wedding

Queen Mary Long Beach Nightmare Before Christmas Wedding.  On my birthday last month, December 13th, I got to photograph probably one of the most interesting weddings I’ve ever seen. The theme of the wedding was based on Tim Burton‘s The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the wedding was on the Queen Mary in Long Beach.

The cool couple who pulled the whole thing off was Bynette and Greg. Their wedding attire was all custom made, all of the decorations were done by the bride with help from her friends, right down to the linens and the bows on the chairs. This wedding had so many intricate details, and they managed to pull it all together in only a few months. When I got into the main room where the reception was, I was in awe at how much there was to capture. I could’ve easily spent the entire wedding just photographing all the amazing details! Bynette and Greg put so many amazing and cool things together to make the wedding reception site unique. It was really like walking onto the set of the Nightmare Before Christmas!

This obviously wasn’t your typical wedding, everyone was encouraged to come in costume for one. Bryan and Scott from In the Mix Events gave everyone dance lessons to the Thriller song! They had gingerbread making, musical chairs, and singing contests, it was pretty unique and definitely a lot of fun! All of the scheduled activities and games were thought up the couple. I think they should probably quit their day jobs and start planning crazy-fun events, but that’s just my opinion. ?

Here’s a taste of their wedding day…

Ventura Beach Engagement Session – Amanda & Jason

Ventura Beach Engagement Session

Ventura Beach Engagement Session. Last week I met up with my friend Amanda and her fiancé Jason to capture their engagement session. We went to Ventura Beach, which is over by downtown Ventura. Amanda wore a beautiful, long, flowy dress which worked perfectly for the windy beach day. We started at the pier and worked our way down to Surfers Point, ending their session in downtown Ventura. It was really fun seeing them all cute and cuddly, and they hardly needed my help at all telling them what to do. Being with each other and intimate in front of the camera came a lot easier to them than any of us expected so it was nice being able to get a glimpse into their little world.

Amanda is from Ventura, and Jason has a business growing coral. Having their engagement session in Ventura beach was a perfect choice. The weather was a little cooler than expected but we got some pretty cloudy skies which can be rare in Ventura. I love walking down the boardwalk at Surfer’s Point. It always has such a lively vibe, so many people biking, and walking their dogs. It was fun going there with them.

Here are a couple of my favorites from their session.

Wedding at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach – Jessica & Jose

Wedding at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach

Jessica and Jose’s wedding at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach was a couple weeks ago. Their wedding day started off with the two of them getting ready with the help of their family and friends at the Crown Plaza. From there we went to the Santa Clara Church, which is one of the prettiest churches in Oxnard! The architecture both inside and outside truly is stunning. After the ceremony we captured all of the family photos and then had some fun with the bridal party. The steps in front of the church make a perfect backdrop for photographs.

It was a typically perfect Southern California day, sunny with bright blue skies and not too windy. We went to Surfers Point in Ventura for my favorite part of the day, taking pictures of the new husband and wife! Jessica wore a gorgeous, long, lacy veil and it looked so beautiful against the blue water! We had just enough time at the beach to capture some sweet moments of the two of them,

Their reception at the Crowne Plaza was awesome! All of their guests seemed to be having so much fun! DJ Alexis kept the party going all night and the dance floor was never empty. The food was delicious, and the drinks were flowing. I don’t think their day could have gone any better.

Here are my favorite’s from Jessica and Jose’s wedding day.

El Paseo Santa Barbara Wedding Photography – Jessica and TJ

El Paseo Santa Barbara Wedding Photography

El Paseo Santa Barbara Wedding Photography. Jessica and TJ’s wedding was a few weeks ago at El Paseo Restaurant in Santa Barbara. They got ready in a beautiful private residence a few minutes from downtown. Jessica had such a beautiful, carefree dress, and her shoes were my absolute favorite! I loved the bright royal blue pop of color!! You can’t go wrong with Badgley Mischka wedding heels! The bottom of her dress was sheer so it showed them off really nicely.

They’re a super fun couple, quirky and cool, and interestingly nontraditional. They didn’t have a typical wedding ceremony, followed by a reception Check out some of the photos from their wedding day! And when you see the two little kids standing in front of them – those were their officiants! They had a dessert table rather than a wedding cake, dry ice was put in the fountain and their unity goblet. They were able to enjoy the cocktail hour since we planned the first sight and formal portraits all before they even said their vows. Their wedding was different than the usual but still fun, personal, and filled with love. Everything went exactly how they had hoped. This was probably one of the lowest stressed weddings I’ve ever shot, and from the bride herself, she was “Bridechilla”!

Styled Ventura Bridal Shoot

Styled Ventura Bridal Shoot

A few weeks ago I photographed a Styled Bridal Shoot in Ventura to show off some amazing local vendors. We started the day in downtown Ventura with two different models. There’s a lot of great spots near the Mission and on Main St. After we were done with the first two models, we had a quick lunch break. We met up with the next two models at a fairly secluded beach in north Ventura. It was nice and sunny, but late enough in the day where the lighting wasn’t too harsh. When we were finished there, we left and ended the shoot with the last model at a private residence in Ventura. She brought her pet Beagle, and since I love dogs so much, I made sure to get a couple photos with him as well.

We had 8 different vendors (including myself and another photographer) get together to make this last minute shoot happen!

Styled Ventura Bridal Shoot Vendors:

Dolly Couture provided the dresses for all of the models. I love the vintage style they all had. So unique for a wedding day. A lot of brides choose these dresses as the reception/party dress. They also are great for bridal showers.

Sparkling Vine Design loaned handcrafted jewelry for the shoot. The jewelry is inspired by vineyards and vintage style. Several of the pieces transform upcycled wine corks and chandelier crystals into unique pieces of jewelry. The pieces complimented the dresses beautifully and added to the vintage look

Dulce Bloom joined in and created some pretty bouquets for the models. They put together a perfect variety of flowers. My favorite was the one with the yellow orchids.

Glory Munoz Makeup Artistry did the makeup for all the models. She made them look even more beautiful than they already looked.

Joanne Farmer Hair did all of the models hair.

The Feathered Head supplied us with a feathered wrap which you can see on the first model in the photos.

Illusions Bridal let us use a veil which you can see on the second model.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the Styled Ventura Bridal Shoot.

Camarillo Ranch Wedding Photography – Tootsa & Jeff

Camarillo Ranch Wedding Photography

Camarillo Ranch Wedding Photography. A few weeks ago I photographed Tootsa and Jeff’s wedding at Camarillo Ranch. First off, that is a great venue for photos! There are so many areas to go and the variety is awesome. Everyone loves the red barn and I love how it makes any picture pop, but I’m a sucker for trees and it has a HUGE tree that has amazing roots you can climb on and get some beautiful pictures.

Tootsa and Jeff are such a cool, laid back couple. They were both so at ease the entire day and I can’t remember a time where they weren’t smiling. They had Tiana from Exotic Green Gardens helping them out with the flow of the day but they were on top of everything from the start and it showed with how smooth their wedding went.

Tootsa’s wedding gown has some special little details… the back of it has three buttons, and those three buttons are from three generations. Her grandmother, mother and sister all donated a button from their wedding gowns to put on to Tootsa’s gown. Wedding dresses always have a special meaning for the bride but adding a personalized element really makes the gown a cherished keepsake. You’ll see the photo below of the three generations pointing to their buttons. ?

Here are my favorites from their wedding day at the Camarillo Ranch.

Wedding at the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum – Shea & Pat

Wedding at the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum

Wedding at the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum. Shea and Pat are a very cool couple. I instantly felt at ease working with them. Their wedding was fun and relaxed and really brought out their personalities. Pat is a huge Raiders fan and even went as far to have their logo on his wedding band! Shea has to be a super cool, easy going person to be ok with that! Shea looked so beautiful in her wedding gown and I LOVED her shoes!

The Santa Barbara Natural History Museum has a really nice backdrop for a wedding. I love the nature that surrounded them. If you’re looking for a nice and peaceful venue that seems more like you’re in the forest then in Santa Barbara, I’d definitely recommend the Natural History Museum. This location can give the feeling of a wooded wonderland. It has a secluded and hidden charm that is rare to find in many places around Ventura and Santa Barbara. We got some beautiful photos with the sun peeking through the trees, and the ceremony site was so peaceful. It was a beautiful wedding and after the ceremony, we went over to the Elks Lodge in downtown Santa Barbara. That’s when the party started and everyone seemed to have a great time. They had a super tasty taco bar, and lots of drinks – including customized beer coozies.

Here’s some of my favorite shots from their wedding day.

Santa Barbara Courthouse Wedding Photography – Keri & Roberto

Santa Barbara Courthouse Wedding Photography

Santa Barbara Courthouse Wedding Photography. A few months ago I posted a teaser image from an elopement I photographed with Kristen Renee at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. I finally had some time to go through all the photos and sit down to write this post. I love photographing weddings and elopements at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. Even just walking through the grounds is a great way to spend some time. It is probably one of the most beautiful courthouses I have seen. There are so many places to get amazing photos there. The architecture is so unique and ornate, and the foliage surrounding the property makes it really stand out. You can be in one area and it looks like you’re in a tropical destination, another area and you’re tucked in the woods. I really love this location!

Here is Keri and Roberto on their gorgeous wedding day!

I am in love with the Santa Barbara Courthouse. And this couple, they are so cute, and look so happy. Let’s plan a photo shoot there, give me a call and we’ll set something up! ?

Point Breezeway Pittsburgh Dog Wedding – Vita & Roddy

Point Breezeway Pittsburgh Dog Wedding

Point Breezeway Pittsburgh Dog Wedding. Finally my bucket list is complete, I just did a dog wedding at Point Breezeway in Pittsburgh! My life may official be complete! On my About Me page it says “I love animals, sometimes more than people. If animals got married and they chose me as their wedding photographer, my life would be complete.” When Jennifer from FurKid Rescue asked me to be the wedding photographer for Vita and Roddy’s dog wedding at Point Breezeway in Pittsburgh!

A month before their big day I came out to Jennifer’s house to take engagement pictures of the two adorable pups! Here’s one of their engagement photos I got of them to help promote their wedding day! Vita was dressed up in a flapper costume, and she was so cute and looked so beautiful!

I love animals, particularly dogs. When I see puppies I almost become catatonic and I can’t stop staring at them. The cuteness is just too much! In Pittsburgh I volunteer to take pictures of the foster dogs for FurKid Rescue. Photos that I take help find these pups forever homes. Jennifer is the owner of the organization and she takes in so many dogs. It’s amazing someone can have that big of a heart, let alone a home to house them!

One of the dogs Jennifer took in was Vita, a beautiful girl who suffered from a terrible heart condition. This baby needed daily medication and constant care. Jennifer took the time to care for her and was able to get a donor to help with the expenses.

Time for their dog wedding day!

Point Breezeway is a popular wedding site that’s perfect for more intimate weddings. It has lots of charm and a great outdoor space. Cake was served for the human guests, and a cake for the doggy guests. Delicious vegan cupcakes and treats for both humans and pups compliments of Sweet Alchemy Bake Shop, Leslie’s Cupcakes, Doggy Delights, and Kivas Canine Cookies. Yummy vegan and vegetarian foods for the humans to eat, all donated by Kaleidoscope Cafe, Fortuitea Cafe, and Spoonwood Brewing Co. Flowers were from Cassandra’s Florals. Live music from LocaL and Carlton Leeper. Such a great event for these two love pups and I was happy to capture it all!

Sadly Vita passed away in late August. Her last day was spent with bike rides and a visit to the park. She was with the people who loved and cared for her the most. I feel so fortunate that I was able to capture photographs of her for Furkid Rescue and anyone else she touched. Vita had the most beautiful eyes, and she’d look at you in such a sweet way you couldn’t help but fall in love with her.

How to Have Your Dog at Your Wedding

How to Have Your Dog at Your Wedding

bride with her dog ventura wedding photography

Do you want to know how to have your dog at your wedding? Do you want them to be your ring bearer? Or are you just wanting to have them be there for the photos? I love the idea of bringing your dog with you on your wedding day! Your dog is not only your companion, they can be your best friend, and the one who got you through tough times. They mean more to you than anybody realizes. A lot of people compare them to a child, and I think they’re pretty similar. So why not have them there on your special day? I would hate not having them with me!  Just the photos alone would be well worth the extra planning! So how do you prepare them, and yourself, for such a big day?

Weddings are Stressful for You and Your Dog!

Wedding days are not just stressful for you, they’re chaotic and definitely can be a stressful experience for your pup. One of the best things to do is have a friend be in charge of them the day of. Make sure they get a good walk in so they’re a little tired, well fed, and already went potty. It would be best to get them used to big groups of people before. If possible bring them to your rehearsal dinner. You can have them at your bridal shower, or even bring them to your bachelorette party! Lol, ok maybe not your bachelorette party, but you get the idea! Get them used to large amounts of people. On the day of your wedding, make sure they are exercised and they’re de-stressed as much as possible.

Do You Want Your Dog to be Your Ring Bearer?

Are you planning to have your dog walk the rings down the aisle? Or did you just want them there for support? If you did plan to have them be your ring bearer, I’d highly recommend having someone walk them down the aisle and not send them down alone. Very few people I know have a dog that’s trained well enough to walk down all alone with that many people around! But if you can train your dog that well, then those photos would be even better! I photographed several weddings where that was the initial plan but they didn’t prep the dog enough. The dogs were just too nervous and weren’t able to walk down the aisle after all, even with someone walking them. We still were able to get some cute shots with the couple and their dog, but they didn’t get the full experience they were hoping for. Now that’s still not necessarily a bad thing. Having your dog there just for the photos can be well worth it.

Where Does Your Dog Go When They’re Done?

What to do with your dog after the ceremony or the photos are done? You probably don’t want them there the entire reception, and they probably don’t want to be there the entire reception either! Loud music, and lots of people dancing seems like a very stressful time for a dog. What I suggest is having that same friend that walked him and prepped him earlier, bring him back home or to your hotel immediately following the photos. There are dog services you can use that will do just that if you don’t have a friend available. Some specialize in wedding day walking and watching so they would be my first choice. I recommend Black Tie Pups or Canine Crossings. If neither are in your area, I’m sure you can make arrangements with a pet sitter from Rover.com.

What Does Your Dog Wear?

bride and groom yorkie dog ventura santa barbara wedding photographer

So you got most of the logistics worked out. Now what does your dog wear?! He can’t show up to your wedding in his regular old dingy collar! There’s a few companies out there that make custom collars, bow ties, and leashes. I’d check out Fang and Fur, or Punky Roo, and there’s also Olivias Doggie Designs. You can get something that will match the colors of your day exactly! You can also buy a mini tuxedo from Chewy!

I LOVE love love when my clients bring their furbabies to their weddings, and to their engagement sessions. Dogs are awesome and they are our best friends and our family! Why not have them be there for you whenever possible?!

Check out my website to see some of my favorite moments where clients brought their dogs! I love it so much, I have an entire gallery dedicated to showcasing them! It’s called Puppy Love! ? If you want to see more cute pups, look at this dog wedding I photographed for FurKid Rescue in Pittsburgh.
